The scene opens up outside a low-rise apartment building in Venice Beach, California just as a cobalt blue Toyota pulled up outside. A blonde tears out of back seat and runs up to the front door, hitting the buzzer for the flat on the top floor as the car pulls away. The blonde of course was none other than Lady Icon… the Iconic Queen herself… Astrid Sedin.
FEMALE VOICE
The fuck do you want?!
ASTRID SEDIN
Cat… Cat it’s me… It’s Astrid.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
Still doesn’t answer my question.
ASTRID SEDIN
You called me crying and I said I would be over right away.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
And you told me you’d be here in 90 minutes. It’s been two hours.
ASTRID SEDIN
I’m sorry. I had to order an Uber because when you called I had a couple of drinks. I didn’t want to drive here and cause an accident or something.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
Whatever… come up I guess.
Astrid waited for the sound signaling the unlocked door to ring out before she pulled it towards her and stepped into the building. Very quickly, she made her way up the stairs before arriving at the door to Catriona’s flat. Taking a deep breath, Astrid raises her hand up and raps her knuckles against the door.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
I’M COMING DAMMIT!
Astrid could hear a crash of glass against a hard surface followed by footsteps that approached the door. It flew open and there standing in front of Astrid was a clearly intoxicated Catriona MacKenzie with puffy red eyes and trails of dried tears down her cheeks.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
You’re late.
Turning away from the door, Catriona stumbled into kitchen, being careful to not step on the broken bottle of wine that was strewn across the floor in a million dark green pieces. Astrid could only watch, her tipsy-ness still ringing a bit in her head, as she closed the door behind her.
ASTRID SEDIN
I thought I said to not do anything drastic. How much have you had to drink in the last 2 hours?
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
I cannae recall… definitely that one though.
Catriona pointed to the ground with one hand as she shakily filled up a glass with more red wine. Taking a sip, Catriona turned around and looked at Astrid.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
You want a glass?
ASTRID SEDIN
Sure… but you don’t have to fil…
Astrid was trying to tell her that she didn’t have to fill up the glass, but Catriona either didn’t hear her or chose to ignore her and filled it to the brim, killing the bottle. Catriona handed her the glass as the pair walked over to the couch and sat down. Astrid takes a sip and lets the taste of fermented grapes linger on her tongue a little bit before finally letting it slide down her throat.
ASTRID SEDIN
Cat, this is coming from me a borderline wino, but I really need you to slow down on the alcohol consumption.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
I just had a fight with my boy… friend and right now this is the only thing that is making me feel better. I thought you would understand my position given that you…
Astrid quickly chugged the wine.
ASTRID SEDIN
Given that I what?
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
Given that you recently have gone through a very similar predicament as I have.
ASTRID SEDIN
What happened between my husband and I was total my fault and we didn’t just have a fight… I’m pretty sure I broke our marriage because I was being a needy little bitch. And I acted impulsively, leaving our home when I should’ve just waited a few hours until he got home. I fucked up… big time… and I’ve been paying for it ever since.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
Yeah well… did he go on a drunken rant via text message and accuse you of cheating, calling bullshit when you tried to say otherwise? I told him to text or call when he was sober… but he just kept going. The more he kept going… the deeper the knife to the heart went.
Slowly, a tear trickled down Catriona’s cheek.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
I deeply care for the man… even with all the…
Catriona lowered her head as she starts sobbing, using her free hand to shield her face. Astrid sat there, not sure of what to do as she set the glass down on the coffee table.
ASTRID SEDIN
I think we’re going to need something stronger than wine.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
There’s whiskey over on the bar cart… maybe even some vodka too.
Astrid nods her head as she heads over to the cart, Catriona finishing off her glass of wine in one big gulp. Bringing up and setting two rocks glasses on the bar cart, Astrid let her fingers dance across the lids of the bottles before coming across one that she hadn’t seen… in a long time before grabbing the Jameson Irish Whiskey.
ASTRID SEDIN
I never took you for a cognac girl.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
Oh that… yeah… I had a get together here a while back and someone left it behind.
Astrid had a feeling that she wasn’t telling the truth and with Cat’s back turned, she quickly shot the one glass before refilling it and walking back to the couch, handing Catriona a glass before sitting down.
ASTRID SEDIN
You know… men pretty much suck anyways. Some of them think with one head while a bulk of them think with the other one between their legs… you know, the fuckboi types.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
The guy I am seeing… he was the first guy in a long time who I could see myself being with for a very long time. The guy before him… ghosted me. And Brooklyn… you remember him right?
Astrid nodded her head.
ASTRID SEDIN
Vaguely… I never did find out what happened to him and I don’t think my estranged husband did either.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
Yeah well neither did I. I just gave up trying to get ahold of him. With them… there was no spark and with this one… there is. This one is the first since my cheating ex that I’ve felt that spark. And that loser, the ex, well he…
Astrid tried to make it look like she was interested but she really didn’t want Catriona’s whole backstory of failed love. She just sipped at her whiskey (not her thing but it was Cat’s so she did it) and nodded.
ASTRID SEDIN
I had a mentally abusive ex before my estranged and he… well the guy fucked me up big time. And I didn’t think that I would find a real love but I did when I found my estranged and everything was a whirlwind and even though he lied to me for the first six months of our relationship and then I was embarrassed on public television when his now ex-wife showed up and made my life hell… I still love him. I can’t not love him. I know…
Catriona looked on as Astrid continued to speak, taking one big sip of the whiskey after another, while still listening to what Astrid was saying. Even though she was saying her estranged, Catriona knew that they were talking about the same man… but Astrid didn’t… or did she? Astrid had suspicions… but didn’t want to admit it to herself.
ASTRID SEDIN
So I know where you’re coming from on thinking you found the one. I did find the one… I just fucked it up and I can finally admit it to myself. It hurts… but I can. I just hope that someday he can forgive me.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
I’m just hoping that mine will come to his senses once he has sobered and realize that he fucked up big time.
ASTRID SEDIN
Sometimes it happens and other times… well I guess it all depends on that man.
Astrid swirled what remained of her whiskey around in the glass before shooting it back like a shot. Leaning forward to set the rocks glass next to her empty wine one, Astrid doesn’t have a chance do or say anything before Catriona grabs her by the arm and pulls her backwards, holding Astrid’s face in her hands as she leaned in and passionately kissed the blonde. It took a few moments before the shock wore off and Astrid started to kiss Catriona back, holding the back of Catriona’s head as they continued their passionate embrace. Catriona slowly trailed the kisses down to Astrid’s neck and it allowed Astrid to realize what was happening.
ASTRID SEDIN
Cat, we shouldn’t. We’re both intoxicated right now and you’re not thinking clearly because of your fight…
Catriona looks into Astrid’s eyes and slowly peels off her formfitting white t-shirt and tosses it to the side, sitting there in just her lace bra and booty shorts.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
I don’t give a flying fuck. Fuck them. Fuck every man who’s ever hurt you… me… any woman.
Astrid pulled Catriona’s head towards hers and started kissing her as the beautiful Scottish woman started to kiss her back. Astrid’s hands slowly went up and down Catriona’s body, gently caressing her breast as Catriona’s hands started to pull Astrid’s black Panic! At The Disco shirt up. They part just long enough for Catriona to remove the shirt and toss it to the side, landing in a clump next to her own. Catriona looks over Astrid’s slender body, her fingertips gently tracing across her abdomen.
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
What does he see in you?
ASTRID SEDIN
What?
CATRIONA MACKENZIE
Nevermind…
Catriona goes right back to kissing Astrid, pushing her backwards so that Astrid was laying on the couch and she was on top of her. Their hands continue to roam each other’s body as the scene comes to and end.
