Sitting on the floor of her apartment in Hollywood California was one of the oldest rookies in wrestling, Kayla Craft. She flips through the pages of an old yearbook and points at her photo where she had darker hair, dark eye shadow and a sneer instead of a smile.
KC:
"I shouldn't wear my makeup like that in a yearbook photo, but I did. I bet you guys wonder why I bring that up, it was so long ago. I should've gotten over it by now, right? Well I did. But my entire life has been filled with that same word."
She looks up; pausing with a less than enthusiastic look on her face.
KC:
"Shouldn't."
She closes the yearbook and stands up.
KC:
"I SHOULDN'T have beaten Whisper. I mean she's been wrestling for seventeen years professionally. She was chock full of experience and she was going to wipe the mat with me, but what happened? I beat her. And then I was told I SHOULDN'T beat Jan van der Roost. He's been wrestling something like twenty five years, been a champion all over, not to mention he has mentored me. No way the student beats the teacher, right? WRONG. I DID! I beat him. Which brings us to the here and now.
Hollywood Haters Ball for the Hollywood Heritage championship and my opponent is none other than the superhero herself, Roxi Johnson. What is it with everyone thinking they're superheroes anyway?"
Kayla laughs before shrugging it off.
KC:
"Anyways, all I've been hearing since the bracket was announced is that I SHOULDN'T beat Roxi, and to tell you guys the truth you're probably right. She's been a standout in SCW which is one of the most respected wrestling companies on the planet. She has a super hot wife, and she's a multiple time former champion. Not to mention, she has way more experience than me. So yeah, I SHOULDN'T beat her, but wait...."
She puts a finger to her chin.
KC:
"Experience, former champion, it's like deja vu. I've already beat former champions and people with more experience. As much as I SHOULD be the underdog, I have to ask myself and Roxi, am I? Two matches here and two wins. Despite being the wrestler in this entire ball with the least amount of experience, I have more momentum than any of the other competitors. Hate on that!"
Flipping a defiant middle finger to the camera, she continues.
KC:
"As much as I respect Roxi I've already told her on Twitter that I was going to punch her in the face, and she said she would punch me right back, good, that's the way I like it and that's what the fans deserve to see. This won't be a cat fight, this won't be a slow, boring match, this will be a fast paced, show stealing, ass kicking affair. All I need to know is what motivates you, Rox? I mean for someone who has done it all, what brings you to the dance? For me it's simple, this is something that I've always dreamt of doing and now I get a chance, but you've been to bigger places and have experienced fame that most can only dream of. While I'm hungry, defiant, and willing to do ANYTHING to walk out of round one victorious, can you say the same?
California Wrestling has a rich history. With past Hollywood Heritage champions like Britney Anders, and show stealers like Kendrick Kross and Equinox, I can promise all of you that I'm not them. If you want them you can watch the old shows, but what I can promise you is that I will fight as hard as any of them to advance in this tournament. I don't even want this, I NEED this. A win over Roxi will do nothing but cement me as one of the fastest rising rookies of 2019, and it will show the world that I'm undeniably underrated, most definitely hated, and having a BALL while changing shit."
The wordplay brought a smirk to her face.
KC:
"Tuesday is the day, some call it a Takeover, if you're a doll you call it a Makeover, but I simply say it's the dawning of a new era for California Wrestling. Oh, I almost forgot, here's your shoutout Trent, now sign the damn contract and come kick ass here like I'm going to on October 1st."

{We fade in with Roxi seated behind her drum set, now adorned with a cool comic book overlay. She calmly plays the intro to the Beatles “Come Together” before stopping, and noticing the camera.}
Roxi – Greetings true believers of California Wrestling! Yes, I know, I probably should have done this sooner, but I’ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get everything in order. I’ve been pretty busy. But, not so busy that I have forgotten about October 1st and competing in the one night tournament to crown the Hollywood Heritage champion. It’s a great thing that California Wrestling has going for it, and I figure, why not contribute to what I think will be a great place for a bunch of great wrestlers for years to come. And what better way to ring that in, than by winning the tournament and becoming the champion.
{Roxi places the drumsticks on the toms and slowly stands up, walking in from of her kit.}
Roxi – I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am, and judging by what I’ve already seen, the guys and gals involved in this are hungry, each of them want very badly to become the champion, winning a tournament like this makes a statement about who you are and your ability to rise to the occasion, and dig down deep, because wrestling 3 matches in one night, isn’t easy. I should know, I’ve done it before. And while it’s been a while, I’m not averse to doing it once more.
{Roxi slowly begins to pace back and forth as she continues.}
Roxi – While some may doubt, and wonder why I would take part in this when they would say I either don’t need to, or that I’m hitting the point where maybe it’s a new era. And to that, I say, I do this, because I love it. I love to get into the ring and test myself. My first round opponent, Kayla Craft, is the prime example of what those who are questioning me, are going to throw out.
{Roxi stops, looking directly at the camera}
Roxi – Kayla is on a roll. She’s beating people left and right, so it stands to reason she’s very confident. And that’s great. Confidence can go a long way. But as much as I am a fan of Jan, and being his pupil means she was trained right, this tournament is something I am looking to thrive in. And a handful of matches, even if they are wins, do not equal experience. Kayla’s good, she may even be great one day, but on October 1st, she’s going to be the first person I beat. Nothing against her, but I remember when I was that wide-eyed rookie. The road may have feel like it’s somewhat easy, but sooner or later, you run into someone who gives you a lesson in reality. I’ve done it many times. And I will have no problem, doing it once again.
{Roxi brushes the hair from her face and continues.}
Roxi – The tournament doesn’t get any easier, in fact it becomes crazy. We’ve got boxers, poker players, body builders, street fighters, and of course, geekettes. Lots of different folks, from all over the place, all coming to give their best. And then you have me. Super hero. So I guess, looking at this way, I fit right in, right? To Mike, Kendrick, Rome, Chang, Kayla, and… my great friend Kate… I just want you, and everyone else to just understand who I am.
{Roxi stands tall, again looking at the camera.}
Roxi – I am much more than a superhero. I have become a beacon of hope for many. A symbol of what is right and good. I am human, I have flaws, and at times, I have faltered, but I have served as an example to an entire world of people. I have been a friend, an ally, a trainer, and mentor. I have fought many battles and I am still here.
Now maybe you’re listening and say it’s old, tired, worn out drivel. And for you, that may be the case. But it’s not for someone else. And that’s who I fight for. For those who still need and want to believe in heroes. If you don’t care, that’s okay. But on October 1st, even if it’s for one night, I plan on making the entire California Wrestling roster, believe in that superheroes, are real.

{Our scene opens in a private movie theatre, complete with movie curtains blocking the projector. We can see Roxi sitting in the middle row as she turns around to face the camera.}
Roxi – Greetings again fans and true believers. As most of you guys already know, I love movies. Pop culture in general, but movies. They just… have that great ability to take you to another place, immerse you in a great story, give you an adrenaline rush of action, and the list goes on and on. So it’s fitting that we’re here, looking forward to the Hollywood Haters Ball tournament, and the winner becoming the Hollywood Heritage Champion. But just like any movie, you have to cast it correctly. So let’s see what we have to work with.
{The lights dim and the curtains open to reveal the giant projection screen. The footage starts rolling, showing some grainy black and white footage of Kayla Craft.}
Roxi – Ah Kayla, a long, upcoming wrestler. Normally, youth is an asset. It can lead one to many leading parts. So many people are looking for the next hot thing. And maybe that is Kayla. She’s had a lot of success. But let’s be honest, youth is no substitute for experience. And to be a champion, people want experience, a person who can lead. And I’m just not sold on Kayla as a champion just yet. Maybe, in time, Kayla will be able to climb to the top, but for now, she’s not the star California Wrestling needs to be a champion. Next!
{The projector switches to Xion Cross}
Roxi - Well, there’s a leading man if we’re just going off of looks. Mr. Cross appears to have everything based on the eye test. But we’ve all seen those movies where a person looks perfect but then, the performance just isn’t there. This is the vibe I’m getting with Mr. Cross, all the looks, none of the heart. It just doesn’t make sense here. We cannot risk an empty performance when it comes to Hollywood. I hope one day he puts it all together, but for now, that’s a hard pass. Next.
{The projector switches to footage of Ch’ang.}
Roxi – Now here we have the classic character who’s been typecast. You know, the guy who’s really good at one thing, I mean, really good, and then they try and make the leap to a different genre and bomb it. As the old saying goes, sometimes, you have to stick with what you know. Ch’ang knows Poker, not wrestling. Expecting to just make the jump and make it so fluidly just worries a lot of people. It’s not something companies can be confident in. And I see it written all over Ch’ang. Next.
{The projector now shows Rome Endrizzi}
Roxi – Another looker. Someone who just looks like a star. But, then again, it’s almost like we could confuse him for someone else. You can look like a star all day, but I just feel like Rome is a guy who is supposed to famous, supposed to be a star, but just isn’t. And no one wants to be mistaken for someone else when it comes down to it. That’s what Rome strikes me as. Not the guy we want, but the guy who take when the guy we want isn’t available. Next.
{The projector shows Kendrick Kross}
Roxi – This is just someone who it would take a while for people to accept. He just looks different, acts different. Looks difficult to control. Again, that is worrisome. I’m all about some tats and standing out, but there’s good standing out, and bad standing out. This clearly falls in the “bad” pile. Next.
{Now to Mike Mason.}
Roxi – Yikes. Nobody likes a douche, and this guy screams it. A guy totally too involved with himself to care about his own responsibilities. It’s almost Rome, Xion and Kendrick rolled into one. A meathead obsessed with his own look. All wrong for this part. All kinds of wrong. Nobody wants this. Ever. At all. Next.
{Finally, Kate Bass.}
Roxi – Multi-talented, multi-dimensional, experienced, and yet, still fresh. It’s not a secret Kate is one of my best friends, and I am hoping we meet in the finals. But alas, sometimes, you meet all the requirements, but you get passed up for the role. Sorry Kate, but that’s going to be you.
Looks like the hero, takes the lead role!
{The projector shuts off and scene fades.}
